Lincoln Park and a gorgeous sunny day.
WPPI – Wedding and Portrait Photographers International. It’s this oversized, superhyped annual convention that goes down in the most obvious and suiting place possible: las vegas. Ali and I had never made the trip before and were all kinds of pumped to see what the hype was all about. We signed up for “Master Classes” of 30 fellow photogs being taught by some industry bigshots, we saved our spots for the massive platform speakers and locked up 4ish hours to peruse the enormous trade show, and we were ready to go.
And we went. Without this turning into a massive review of an event most of you wouldn’t be remotely interested in, I will say that we were incredibly and surprisingly overwhelmed by the entire experience (with the exception of Zumanity, that is. But that’s a different blog). While rubbing elbows with everyone from soccer moms with cameras to “I don’t do weddings for less than $20,000″ Rockstar Photogs, we came to quite a few conclusions about the state of the industry, our ‘competition’, and where we fit into the entire puzzle.
I’m getting creeped out by the amount of awesome that is being put into camera phones these days. This is by no means a perfect example of that point, but compared to what they were doing just 2 years ago, it’s insane.
Hope you caught some of the sun today, Seattleites. The beach was beautiful.
