Mad Men, Season 5 Premiere | Newlywed Post

For the Mad Men Season 5 Premiere, we had our own mini-party. We enjoyed some era-appropriate hors d’oeuvres while channeling Don‘s classic look, and Betty‘s get-up from the Italy episode. We don’t mess around. Or more accurately, we do mess around…in full-costume…at home…because that’s totally normal.

Being "In the Moment" On Your Wedding Day | JayLee M.O.

Most of us know what that “auto-pilot zone” feels like in day-to-day life. We do what we need to. We drive where we need to drive. We do the laundry. We cook dinner. We accidentally read 5 pages of our book before realizing we didn’t really read five pages of our book. There are so many times during the day that we are not really “present”. Our minds are elsewhere, or we are so focused on the task at hand that we aren’t really enjoying that very moment. It sound cheesy, but it is ultimately true if you want to lead a happy life… you should try to enjoy the process of going after a goal as much as you will enjoy accomplishing it.

For that reason, I believe that when it comes to big events in life, we should be ready. We should enjoy the moments leading up to the bigger moment (in this case, the planning process and being engaged) as much as we will enjoy getting married. On the day of the wedding, we should be fully immersing ourselves in the joy of each second of that day. Wedding days go by really quickly…. everyone says it, because it’s true! Here are a few tips on staying present and in the moment on your wedding day (and maybe they can apply to other areas of your life as well)!

Wicked Bout | Roller Derby

As promised, here is a bit of the bout Josh shot a little while back for the Tilted Thunder Rail Birds in Seattle. WAY more hardcore than that other league in Seattle, these ladies threw down like no other. You absolutely must take the trip up to Everett and catch their next match (April 1st).

Keep an eye out on the blog in the next few weeks…we have been shooting some pretty awesome portrait and engagement sessions! // Josh + Ali

Your Wedding Timeline | JayLee M.O.

So, let me preface this by saying that talking about wedding-day timelines tends to freak couples out a little bit when we even mention them in a meeting. Most couples book us up to a year before their wedding, so it only makes sense that the details are not ironed out yet! After you have booked with us, you will get a friendly little e-mail about a month before the big day, asking for your timeline. Pretty much, as long as you send it to us before the day of the wedding, you’re golden. So, breathe easy!

This summer, we are shooting some super-untraditional weddings. We personally love this fact. It makes our jobs fun, and more importantly, customized wedding timelines make a lot of sense because they should suit you specifically as a couple rather than some pre-determined way of of doing things.

However relaxed your day may be, please do still write out a timeline. If you are lucky enough to have a wedding planner or day-of coordinator, utilize them as a resource in helping you develop a timeline that works for you. When it comes to photography, we pretty much just follow the couple around all day, but a timeline helps us to know if we need to split up at any time and where you need extra coverage. Here are a few things we like to know before your wedding day: {Skip to the end for a sample timeline.}

Beauty | Boudoir Edition

For a while, we had a separate website for Boudoir, but have found that our clientele is…well, the people who read this blog. So, we will be incorporating boudoir into the JayLee brand, and as we do, you will begin seeing some more sneak peeks on the blog.

Boudoir sessions make great “groom’s gifts” as they are traditionally called, or special gifts for a significant other, but more than that they are fun confidence boosters. It’s also a great excuse to buy new lace-y pieces before getting all dolled up and having photos taken that highlight your beauty. Isn’t this gal stunning?

Due to the sensitive nature of boudoir, many ladies ask that I not post their sessions online, or to only post shots that don’t highlight their face. So, I am so excited to share these snippets from a recent session. Contact us if you would like more information about boudoir, and see our pricing here! //Ali

The Loss | Seattle Music Photography

While Ali was in Texas visiting her family I spent the weekend shooting quite the eclectic mix of events. The weekend started with a super-rad birthday party, moved to a roller derby bout (coming soon), and wrapped with a 40-minute set of brutal punk(ish)-rock(ish) jams by these guys: The Loss. They moseyed their way into our side of town and tore The Shipwreck Tavern to shreds with punch-you-in-the-face energy and disney-sing-along style hooks (that part isn’t necessarily true), and I highly recommend catching their next show for yourself. Aw. Yeah.

What To Wear {Inspiration} | JayLee M.O.

Here’s another “What To Wear” post for you! This week, we did four looks from a female and four from a male to be mixed and matched for couples as needed.

I could easily wear all of character Ashley Davenport from Revenge‘s outfits (yeah…I have my eye on the red skirt)…I love that she wears bold pops of color like bright red, mustard yellow, turquoise, emerald green, and coral. For casual looks, she wears a monogramed “a” necklace, and for night events she wears larger statement pieces. Ashley also has a personal style blog too that has some fun stuff on it!

A good friend of mine recently posted a photo of Gabriel Macht on Pinterest that reminded me he has rocked some great fashion inspiration on Suits and Because I Said So. Both characters sport master pattern mixing. I especially love the the vintage plaid blazer and plaid shirt, and the second suit look with three mixed stripe patterns! Links to all of the items are listed below (and available to buy as of right now). I try to find cheaper alternatives to the real thing – or as close as possible- and create attainable options. Thanks for reading and be sure to let us know of some fashion icons you would like to see on the blog! //Ali Ashley Davenport Revenge, Ashley Davenport Style, What to Wear photography, what to wear inspiration, photography inspiration, style guide photography, spring style guide photography, seattle engagement photographer, seattle couple photographer, seattle lgbt photographer what to wear

Landscape | Texas Part II

It’s always fun to shoot photos in a different environment. Here are a few that I took while going for walks during my trip to Texas (Part I). I loved how quiet it was… some of my favorite moments were sitting on the porch having coffee with my sister, taking walks with my mom, and talking to my grandparents over breakfast.  //Ali
