A sweet church wedding. A gorgeous bride. Trivial Pursuit and an ice-cream bar. An awesome lodge. The most romantic first dance. A truly dapper groom (handlebar mustache...yep). Oh, and perfect weather to boot. These two lovebirds have since relocated to California and being the giving, kind-hearted people that they are, we know they are going to do great things together! Thanks for trusting us to capture your day, Rachel and Dustin. // Text: Ali, Images: Ali and Sean (This sweet couple met at Peet's Coffee in true, adorable Seattle-fashion (so it only makes sense their engagement photos were coffee inspired). See their e-sesh here.) It's one of our faves.
"Oh, you want to do your engagement session at the Seattle Aquarium with the octopus, seals and otters? Yeah, sure, I guess that's okay." is absolutely NOT how we responded when Lindsay and Mark told us their location idea. Even though we've been in Seattle for about seven years now, we can still get a little nerdy when it comes to doing some of the more touristy stuff in town, so we jumped on the chance to go back to the Aquarium with this rad couple we met at a wedding last year. Shooting in such a popular location definitely had it's challenges (all the people!!!), but the payoff was TOTALLY worth it. Try not to smile too hard when you see them inches away from a curious seal, all happy and laughing. //Josh+Ali

Mike and Rachelle have been great friends of ours for a couple years now. Fellow West Seattleites, they were recently relocated to SoCal (they moved the day after the wedding!), which gives us an awesome excuse to escape the Seattle gloom for 10 mile cruiser rides on the beach.
Their wedding was so perfectly them (as all weddings should be), foregoing the high production insanity for a backyard ceremony in Woodinville followed by an awesome night of Karaoke goodness at Talarico's in West Seattle.
We miss them greatly, but can't stop smiling when we look over these photos. See you on the beach soon! //Josh+Ali

It all started a few winters ago with an LL Bean Ad *cough* I mean engagement session with honest-to-goodness high-school sweethearts. Getting stuck in the snow. Bailing people out in the freezing cold. Rubbing our mittens together in a big truck and getting stuck ourselves, in that big truck. More getting stuck. More snow falling down. Cold, red noses. Finally, the truck keys getting locked in the car and spending more time in our small (earlier abandoned) Kia after hours trekking around in the cold taking pictures. Yes. It was an adventure. Couples like this one are why we do this and why we love it. We get to know you. And the morning of the wedding when I walk in to see the bride in her little slippers and her hair in the process of being done, I’m excited. I can’t wait to see the dress she chose, the way the ceremony will look. I can’t wait to document it all the best way I can, not only because it’s my job, but because I care on a personal level.
I could use a lot of adjectives to explain Christina and Matt’s wedding…but instead I hope you can really experience the day through these photos, and through this incredible video by Turning Leaf Productions. Christina and Matt, we wish you a life filled with adventure and love! //Text: Ali, Images: Ali and Sean
(*On a side note, Christina’s sister, Sarah, is not only the nicest person you’ll probably ever meet, but she is an extremely talented hair-stylist/wizard. )
What a lot of other photographers won’t tell you is that, when you upgrade to their second shooter option, most of the time you’re getting a random photographer that they haven’t decided on until a week before your wedding. I know, we feel like the masked magician on those “Secret of Magic” shows right now, but we can’t tell you how many times, to our absolute horror, we’ve seen photographers throw out a TWITTER BLAST on a Tuesday looking for a 2nd shooter for a wedding on Saturday. Seriously, this happens, and you’re paying these people hundreds-to-thousands of dollars to capture some memories for you.
And we’re sure they hire capable photographers and we’re sure that business practice works for them, but we respect our clients too much to bring some faceless rando to their wedding, which is why we decided to make JayLee into a four-person team two years ago and give us the ability to tell our clients that we’re bringing a specific person, trained, branded, and awesome, to their wedding. No twitter blasts for us.
In our first year we brought on Sean and Jeni and could not have been more thrilled about their being onboard. They were 100% Team JayLee, shot lights-out, and gave our lovely clients the most incredible experience they could ask for. This year, Jeni broadened her horizons past weddings+portraiture, and we were all kinds of bummed to lose her (as you may have seen yesterday), so the task fell on us to find the newest member of our Team and get back to rocking your socks.
Enter Whitney. Her energy is infectious. Seriously. She laughs incessantly (even at Sean’s jokes) and takes some really incredible photos. We’re so ridiculously obsessive over our brand and our clients, so when we put that in another photographer’s hands you know they’re the best there is, and Whitney is no exception. We’re so looking forward to an awesome year of watching her rock all your socks off.
So, help us welcome Whitney to the JayLee Family, find out some more random factoids on her page, and keep an eye out for her work. Here we go, 2014. //Josh+AliRead more...

In 2013, JayLee grew from a husband-and-wife team to a four-person team so that we could begin taking on even more awesome weddings. Jeni quickly became an integral part of JayLee and it was super fun watching her grow as a photographer as she stepped into the position of 2nd shooter. We are sad to see Jeni go, but are so happy for her as she moves on to other goals and dreams.
Here is a look back at a few of the beautiful photos Jeni took during her time with us. Best of luck, Jeni! //Josh, Ali, and Sean
(We will be introducing our new 2nd shooter, Whitney, on the blog and website soon!)

You'll remember us mentioning in Kelsey + Mark's engagement session post that Mark is co-owner of one of Josh's favorite breweries, Two Beers Brewing, so when we were invited to their rehearsal "dinner" at the brewery the day before the wedding, we had a feeling the next day was gonna be pretty great. Kelsey+Mark were so laid back all day we would have forgotten a wedding was happening if Kelsey wouldn't have been rocking that gorgeous vintage dress. With a pre-wedding stop at a West Seattle bar and a stylin' reception at Melrose Market Studios in Capitol Hill, every single part of this day was so...them. Enjoy!! //J+A
Melissa and Jeff showed up to with Halloween-themed cupcakes for us and a great attitude despite the sky opening up at the beginning of the session. Luckily, umbrellas are adorable, the light was amazing and her yellow dress really popped in all those leaves! After wandering the drizzly park for a while, we hiked about 48 miles down to the lighthouse to catch the sunset (there was a sunset!!!). Even after a lengthy hike (okay, it wasn't 48 miles), these two were still laughing and making some pretty genuine photos. Thanks for rocking socks, you two, and those cupcakes were ridiculous-delicious. //Josh+Ali
