This week, we had a lounge-y morning where I made crepes and coffee to surprise Josh with breakfast in bed! Crepes are great because you can put pretty much anything you want into them after seeing what you have in your pantry/fridge, and they taste awe-some. I like sweet crepes better than savory for breakfast, but savory crepes can be really yummy for lunch and dinner. Here are some combinations we tried:

Alki Spring | Newlywed Post

Spring has been peeking it’s head out in Seattle this week. Where we live, things get a little bit crazy when the sun appears (everyone comes down to Alki and it’s a little…overwhelming). We enjoyed the sun, longboard rides, drinks with friends, and lots of beach walks filled with coffee and treats. When things went back to the normal Seattle gloom we were kind of happy about having the beach to ourselves again. Ali is getting ready for an art show she will be hanging in at the end of the month, and we are busy editing and making big plans for JayLee (we will share soon). We hope you all got to enjoy some of the sun too! //Josh + Ali

Landscape | Texas Part II

It’s always fun to shoot photos in a different environment. Here are a few that I took while going for walks during my trip to Texas (Part I). I loved how quiet it was… some of my favorite moments were sitting on the porch having coffee with my sister, taking walks with my mom, and talking to my grandparents over breakfast.  //Ali

Family + 61st Anniversary | Texas Part I

I went to Texas in January to see my grandparents, and my mom and sister met me there. It was a really special trip, as I have not seen my grandparents or that side of the family in a very long time. My grandmother and I have kept in touch through e-mail and she always sends the most thoughtful packages and letters. She is a talented and giving woman who is always thinking of her family, despite what she may be going through herself.

Equally as amazing, my grandpa is devotedly there for her in a way that makes long-lasting love seem possible for those of us who are still early in our marriages. They are approaching their 61st Anniversary (and my Grandma’s birthday, too) which is why I waited to share these photos until now (I sent them an album so they can see the pictures in print, too).

Trips like this one make you realize just how important family is. To me, this is the very meaning of “lifestyle” photography- documenting your home, the things you love, and the people you love as you spend time together chatting, having laugh-attacks, genuinely smiling as kids play, etc. It’s not about perfection or cool-factor or having the right light…these photos are life as it is happening and moments that are worth remembering.

I’m so glad to have documented these memories for myself and my family and I’m glad to be able to share some of them with our clients and readers. Photos really are the most prized possession.

{I also took some photos around Texas that you can see here.} Happy Anniversary Grandma and Grandpa, and Happy Birthday Grandma! Love, //Ali

"Date Night": By Rufus | Newlywed Post

Sometimes, Mom and Dad leave me at home for something they call a date night. I call it an abandon Rufus night. I am pretty good at sulking and making them feel bad, even though they tell me over and over that they will “be home soon”.

BUT, one night this week they actually did come right back after going to get some ice cream so that they could watch Dexter in their pajamas like lazy people. The show has very few dogs in it and it’s pretty scary, but they love it. To my great surprise they also got a treat for Rufus. Not one of those hard-bone-good-for-your-teeth-”treats”, either.

Why What You Believe Matters | JayLee M.O.

When it’s inconsequential, business owners can be pretty outspoken. But when it’s big… like, political, life-changing big, they tend to keep their mouths shut. A few minutes in the twitterverse of the photography industry will show mountains of opinions of the newest gear, whether the vintage filter is a trend or something of the future, or if the latest workshop is worth the $3000 entry fee, but when folks start talking about real-world stuff, they’re painfully silent.

And that is one of the many areas that we’re proud to break the mold.

Working With Your Spouse | Newlywed Post

We aren’t really experts and wouldn’t claim to be, but from what we can tell, working with your spouse isn’t for everyone. In the wedding photography biz, we know of many his-and-her, his-and-his, and her-and-her teams. Surely each couple works together a bit differently, and the dynamic is not the same for everyone. We have had a lot of clients tell us they would go nuts working together…and yeah, that makes some sense.

We are coming up on our busiest summer yet (exciting!) and we are lucky enough to be wrapping up this season with some great engagement sessions and special projects. Once summer time rolls around, we will be working together even more frequently while juggling travel, shooting for long days, editing a heavy load, shipping/packaging materials, and so on. Here are the challenges as we’ve seen them, when it comes to working with your spouse, and our top 10 suggestions for overcoming them.
